So hard to touch the sky - tribute to Jhonn Balance

Desvelos - So hard to touch the sky

Here’s a song I’ve written together with my band Desvelos in 2004. My father died a couple of months before this, so did the father of my friend Thomas (who did the music) and so had before the father of our female vocalist extraordinaire Sandra.

Suddenly we all felt like orphans, left alone.

You can hear a sample of an old recording of my father chanting with his sardic choir in it, recorded somewhere around 1960.

Then Jhonn Balance from Coil died, whose late music had a deep impact on us while we were recording the album (which was never released, btw). Spontaneously we contributed this slightly shortened version of our closing track “So hard to touch the sky”to a Jhonn Balance tribute called “Full Cold Moon” by the netlabel Dark Winter.

Today is a good day to feel sad and we’re all without answers, with a desperate need of hope. I remember what I felt, when we recorded this:

Today we’re all orphans.

So hard to touch the sky

It’s so hard to touch the sky
so easy to deny
to fly
to dream
to stay.

So easy to say:
“I’m so afraid to fall
to fly away.”

So easy to disbelieve
so easy to deny
that I could
get high.

It’s so hard to believe:
“When the dream is over
and each breath will carry songs
in this future on wings.”
